About Christmas City Chorus

Celebrating 40+ years of harmony!

Christmas City Chorus is committed to preserving the art of four-part a cappella harmony, barbershop style through education, performance and musical excellence.

 

Christmas City Chorus is a membership organization founded in 1970 and today includes members of all ages who come from eight counties in east central Indiana including: Huntington, Wabash, Grant, Delaware, Jay, Howard, Miami and Blackford. We come together weekly to sing, to dance, to learn and to teach the art of a cappella  and barbershop music.  Some have musical education and training; many do not.  Friendship and a passion for singing and performing is the common bond.

 

Performance

Christmas City Chorus loves to perform for audiences around east central Indiana!  We perform for corporations, civic groups, churches, community events and private parties  Around February 14 you might hear us singing a love song to an unsuspecting "special someone" as one of our quartets deliver one of our famous Singing Valentines.

Education

The chorus is continually striving to learn more about their craft to become better singers and exciting performers.  Individual instruction is available to each member as well as the group vocal lessons given every rehearsal night by the Director and chorus music leaders.  The focus is on vocal production and helping each member reach a higher level of performance.  The chorus also brings in Internationally recognized coaches to help them toward their goal of musical excellence.  You may think from this that all our members are trained vocalists.  Not so.  Some of our members have musical training but many do not.  Education is one of the benefits of membership.

 

There are other opportunities to stretch your talents or discover new ones.  Knowledge of staging, costuming, arranging, choreography, makeup and even learning to emcee are all areas in which a member can get involved.  The chorus also fuels any interest a member may have in leadership, management, finance, public relations and marketing on the local, regional or International level.  Oh, and don't forget show production and script writing!!  Education is the primary focus of Sweet Adelines International and Christmas City Chorus and our members are encouraged to get involved in a variety of ways at their own level of enthusiasm, desire and availability.

 

 

CompetitionThe highlight of our year is In the spring when we participate in the annual Region 4 Convention and Competition.   Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. While we compete for the coveted privilege of representing our region at the fall International Convention and Competition (Houston, TX  in October 2011), the focus of the weekend is education, thrilling performances, making and renewing friendships and celebrating a year of exceptional experiences.  Our award are many including 3rd place in our division, 1st place and this year 2nd place in our division and 6th place overall.

Christmas City Chorus is one of 600 choruses in Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 26,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The emphasis on music education and musical excellence is one reason we are the largest singing organization for women in the world.  The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
